Murfatlar is Romania's largest and most prestigious winery.  Located in Constanta, Romania, their wines are grown in a region very similar to Bordeaux, France and produces very exquisite award winning wines.

The wine culture in Constanta, Romania is among one of the oldest in human history.

The Greek Empire first established the Port of Tomis to ship wines and agriculture from this important Black Sea region.  Tomis is also the fabled city where Jason and the Argonauts brought the Golden Fleece after their quest.

The Greeks placed great importance to Tomis wines and the pagan religion gave birth to Dionysus, the God of the Wine Harvest. Dionysus was accompanied by his sidekick Pan, the half man-goat who played the panflute to entertain nymph fairies. Therefore, wine and folklore mixed to entertain those who drank wine.

Tomis was later incorporated by the Roman Empire and continued the Greek traditions. Tomis is now called Constanta and was the the place of exile for the famous Poet Ovid.
